The Department at a Glance

Department of Oil and Gas Law

In recent decades, academic centers of the world have witnessed the emergence and development of new yet important fields of study in humanities. The said fields are related to oil and gas and their legal, economic and management aspects.

While these interdisciplinary fields of study have experienced a rapid growth, gas and oil-rich countries lack the capacity to study, do research and train skilled local workforce due to the efforts of new imperialism to secure its interests through unilateral contracts and concessions.

Lack of skilled and committed workforce in the Ministry of Oil to negotiate and enter into contracts is a long-standing problem plaguing Iran throughout its history, in particular after the 1979 Islamic revolution.

To solve this problem, the University of Science and Culture launched a master’s program in oil and gas law. It is a comprehensive program that covers all legal aspects of oil and gas and is taught by renowned scholars of the field.

Duration and Details

It takes three years, including three educational semesters and two research semesters to complete a master’s degree in oil and gas law. The education system is credit-based in which the students should take 22 credits in major courses and ten credits in elective courses in three semesters and write a four-credit thesis in the fourth semester.

The courses are mainly theoretical and research-based, and practical applications should also be taken into account.

Each semester lasts for 31 weeks, and each theoretical course lasts for 31 hours.

Moreover, the students are expected to complete six credits in makeup courses.
